FDF has made a submission to the DTI's “The UK experience of European Works Councils” consultation document. The European Commission is to review the operation of the European Works Council directive before the end of 2003.

The principal aim of this pre-review consultation exercise is to help UK Government prepare for EU-level discussions on the possibility of reviewing the directive. This raises the prospect of amendments to the directive being brought forward some time in 2004 or 2005.
