Workstream 5 'Food Access, Affordability and Security'
In its discussion document on developing a national food policy for Scotland,
the Scottish Government stated that “Food is everyone's business.… Any vision
of
Scotland's future prosperity must include a well nourished population and
profitable food industry.”
This is a vision that SFDF shares.
In our view, a successful food and drink manufacturing industry is a vital
component of a healthy Scottish economy, not least, because it provides
employment
for around 50,000 people – that is, one in five people who work in Scottish
manufacturing - and generates annual sales of £7.57 billion and exports worth
£3.57
billion.
