Workplace Wellbeing

Workplace wellbeing has been a key pillar of the Food and Drink Federation's action plan on health since 2004 – and we believe that FDF members have shown real leadership in an area that is now moving rapidly up the political agenda.

In 2007, FDF published a report highlighting the schemes introduced by 10 leading companies which between them employ more than 40,000 people in the UK.

FDFs Partnership with Business in the Community (BiTC)

In 2008, FDF partnered with the Business in the Community (BiTC) charity on its Business Action on Health Campaign. This is a business-led campaign which has been developed by BiTC to help companies better understand how to promote health and wellbeing in their organisations for the benefit of their people as well as their bottom line.

Healthy Eating Toolkit

Our first contribution to the campaign has been to help develop the Healthy Eating Toolkit (pdf, 1Mb), developed by HR consultancy Towers Perrin.

The Toolkit draws on the nutritional expertise and collective experiences of leading FDF members Cadbury, Danone, Kellogg's, Tate & Lyle and Unilever. This unique resource has also benefited from the input of the Food Standards Agency, Aramark, BITC and HR consultancy Towers Perrin.

It is designed to provide practical guidance for companies looking to promote healthy eating in their operations as part of an integrated employee wellbeing programme. Among other things the Toolkit highlights:

  • the business case for promoting healthy eating among employees
  • examples of best practice
  • a 12-step model for planning, executing and renewing healthy eating initiatives.

FDF Members' Workplace Wellbeing Schemes

You can find details of our member's workplace wellbeing schemes in our Industry in the Community section.

As FDF, we are committed to playing our part in making workplace wellbeing a board issue for all businesses and will continue to play an active role in the BITC campaign. We will also be reporting annually on the work our members are doing; showcasing excellence through a workplace category in our Community Partnership Awards; and sharing best practice via case studies on our website.
